Food Security Sector SO2 Gap Analysis – August 2022

In July 2022, the sector partners have assisted 785,232 people with agricultural livelihoods interventions in the BAY states out of the 3.5M targeted people. The largest gap identified remains in Adamawa State (81%), followed by Yobe State (77%), and Borno State (76%). The gap in agriculture livelihood support is about 2.7 million people. This implies there is a significant agricultural livelihoods gaps in BAY states.

Despite the relative increase in access to land for production as reported by communities and food security actors (including in some garrison towns). On the contrary, the number of farmers/households being targeted for the ongoing rain season support is consistently reducing since 2020, as compared to the previous years. This is largely due to resource constraints. The Sector continues to advocate for more investment in agricultural livelihoods activities to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable households that have access to land and labor capacities to produce especially with the opportunities coming with the upcoming dry season farming.
