During August 2021, Sector partners assisted about 2.3 million individuals with food assistance (through in-kind or CVA) in the three most affected North-East states of Nigeria. The largest gap identified remains in Borno State, followed by Yobe State, and Borno State. The Sector Partners are coordinating on the scale-up plan given the increased needs.

The Food Security Sector continues to advocate for both government and non-government partners to scale up to cover the food gaps during the peak of the lean season.

Following the launch of the scale-up of food security support during the 2021 lean season given the increase in needs, food assistance by partners including WFP, ZOA, Danish Refugee Council were able to scale up by about 1 million people. Despite the scale-up efforts, there remains a gap of approximately 1.6 million people in need of Emergency Food Assistance, and 174,000 HHs (or approximately 1.2 million people) Agriculture Livelihoods Scale up during the lean season (2021), mainly due to funding gaps. The Food Security Sector requires 46.6 million USD for the rest of the Lean Season Scale-up (September 2021).
