Food Security Sector Dashboard - October 2021

During October 2021, about 2,476,248 of them were supported with Emergency Food Assistance, and 1,277,322 Agricultural Livelihoods Support. There remains a gap of approximately 1.5 million unassisted people for food assistance and about 1.8 million for Agricultural Livelihoods. As a result of the increased needs in 2021 and gaps in funding, WFP will Scale down in Borno and Yobe from 1.7 M Oct. to 1.4 M Nov. and 1.1 M Dec. There will also be a reduction of ration size from 100% to 70% in all GDF in-kind locations. Some INGO partners have also reported not being able to provide the recommended 70% food basket cost through Cash Voucher Assistance, and will have to reduce to 50% due to funding gaps.

The October Inaccessible Areas Famine Monitoring System Bulletin is led by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and supported by partners. Findings from the FMS revealed both crude and under-five mortality rates were above the emergency threshold The elevated levels of consumption gaps, malnutrition, mortality, and pervasive usage of emergency coping strategies, is largely underscored by the limited availability of food stocks, restricted access to functional markets and water, health and sanitation services, which might heighten morbidity risk and impact households' ability to engage in labour for food or resource gathering.

The Sector continues to advocate for all actors to coordinate with the various sectors in the joint sectoral implementation of various activities whenever feasible.
