Food Security Sector Dashboard - August 2021

During August 2021, about 2,332,064 of them were supported with Emergency Food Assistance, and 1,167,125 Agricultural Livelihoods Support. According to March 2021 Cadre Harmonisé (CH) projection period (June to August 2021), the number of food insecure population is 4.4 M.

The August Inaccessible Areas Famine Monitoring System Bulletin is led by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and supported by partners. Findings from the FMS revealed concerning consumption patterns in inaccessible areas Crude Mortality and Under 5 mortality rates average stood at 2.39 and 3.58 deaths/10,000/day respectively, both of which exceeded the emergency threshold and, approximately 3 times the average mortality rate of NE Nigeria general population. Illness was the main cause of death (e.g., cholera outbreak – Gwoza). Phase 5 levels of food consumption and malnutrition (excludes mortality) persisted in Bama, Gwoza, Magumeri, Kukawa, Konduga, Damboa, and Madagali were newly added in August. The above outcomes remain underscored by disrupted livelihoods, limited availability of food stocks, restricted access to markets, water, sanitation, and health services.

The Sector continues to advocate for all actors to coordinate with the various sectors in the joint sectoral implementation of various activities whenever feasible.
