Food Security Sector Dashboard - September 2021

During September 2021, about 2,493,932 people were supported with Emergency Food Assistance, and 1,195,006 Agricultural Livelihoods Support. According to October 2021 Cadre Harmonisé (CH) Current period (October 2021), the number of food insecure population is projected to be about 3.5 million people in the peak of the lean season of 2022, which is about a 20% reduction as compared to the 2021 lean season peak.

The September Inaccessible Areas Famine Monitoring System Bulletin is led by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and supported by partners. Findings indicate that Severe food insecurity outcomes persist in inaccessible areas (68% had inadequate diets, 63% experienced hunger and food deprivation, and 38% of households used emergency livelihood coping strategies). Malnutrition at critical levels where overall GAM rates stand at 28.7% MAM and SAM at 11.9% (Highest since June 2021). New arrivals from inaccessible areas are 5 times more likely to be acutely malnourished compared to those from accessible locations.

The Sector continues to advocate for all actors to coordinate with the various sectors in the joint sectoral implementation of various activities whenever feasible.
