Pakistan is enduring one of its most devastating monsoon seasons in recent years, already affecting more than 4 million people and killing 883 people. Authorities have evacuated more than 1,200,000 people. 

With two more weeks of monsoon rains ahead, the number of people affected continues to rise. Particularly, with floodwater moving downstream and four to five additional monsoon spells forecast through mid-September, there is a major risk of heavy flooding in Sindh province in the coming days. Projections indicate that 1.6 million additional people could be impacted in Sindh. 

Beyond the human toll, the floods have caused extensive infrastructure damage, with over 9,200 houses, 239 bridges, and 670 kilometers of roads destroyed or damaged. Floods have also destroyed crops with an estimated 890,000 hectares of cropland flooded. Communities across Pakistan have been affected.  

Punjab province – Pakistan’s food basket – is experiencing the worst flooding in four decades according to authorities, with an estimated 3.4 million people affected, and more than 3,300 villages inundated.
