Agriculture Input and Commodity Price Bulletin - July 2022

Key Highlights:

  • Price increases for both agriculture inputs and food commodities continue to be observed in Syria.
  • During this reporting period, there is still evidence of limited availability of and access to main agricultural inputs (i.e. quality seeds, fertilizers, herbicides, fuel and irrigation water) in some governorates.
  • The water crisis due to drought-like conditions has adversely impacted output from the agricultural sector is threatening food and nutrition security and agriculture-based livelihoods of farmers in Syria.
  • There are indications that some productive agricultural land may be out of production due to water scarcity, dry spells and erratic rainfall distribution experienced during the 2021/2022 agricultural season. There is urgent need to address the various challenges being faced in the agriculture sector, including raising awareness on climate change and its impact on the performance of the agriculture sector and adaptation and mitigation strategies to cope with recent shocks.
  • The continued shortage of fuel is still a main challenge for people in July 2022. It affected all aspects of life across all monitored governorates
