After one year of political and military unrest in Sudan, there are record-high levels of humanitarian needs throughout Sudan, and it is uncertain how the three-year-old transition to a new Sudan will go. Compared to the previous year, there are now around 2 million more people who are food insecure. A third of the population, or 15.8 million people, are predicted by humanitarian partners to require aid by 2023. The number is the most since 2011. Around 8.7 million of the persons in need of assistance are children under the age of 18.
