Hunger Hotspots Report June-October 2025

For the outlook period from June to October 2025, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) warn that acute food insecurity is likely to worsen across 13 countries and territories identified as hotspots and are issuing an early warning for urgent humanitarian action in these hotspots.

Focus on

Sudan 

Over half the population, 24.6 million people, projected to face Crisis or worse levels (IPC Phase 3+) of acute food insecurity, including:

• 8 million to face emergency levels (IPC Phase 4)
• 637,000 grappling with catastrophe levels (IPC Phase 5)

Palestine

• Looming risk of famine with 470,000 people facing catastrophic hunger at IPC Phase 5.
• Gaza's entire population of 2.1 million people is projected to face Crisis or worse (IPC Phase 3 or higher) levels of acute food insecurity.

South Sudan

• Over half the population, 7.7 million people, projected to face crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity between April and July 2025 (IPC Phase 3+).
• 63,000 people projected to face catastrophe hunger levels (IPC Phase 5).
• Risk of famine in two areas of the country

Haiti

• Over 8,400 internally displaced persons (IDPs) facing Catastrophic food insecurity (IPC Phase 5) in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area. 

Mali

• Around 1.5 million people projected to face Crisis or worse (CH Phase 3 or worse) during the June–August 2025 lean season.
