Food Security Sector Dashboard - October 2022

In the BAY states, according to the October 2022 Cadre Harmonise analysis results, about 3 million people are currently food insecure. This number will increase to 4.4 million people who will need food assistance in 2023 lean season, of which 578,178 will be in ‘emergency phase’ (Phase 4) and 3,967 people are in ‘catastrophe’ (Phase 5). The number of food insecure people has continued to remain high since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and has not shown any signs of abating due to elevated levels of inflation, record levels of flooding as well as restricted access for humanitarian actors to reach affected population in “hard-to-reach” areas.

In October 2022, 1.7 million people were assisted with emergency food assistance, and 1 million with agricultural livelihoods support in BAY states by food security sector Partners.

The Sector continues to advocate for all actors to coordinate with the various sectors in the joint sectoral implementation of various activities whenever feasible.
