Food Security Sector Dashboard - December 2021

During December 2021, about 1,743,241 beneficiaries were supported with Emergency Food Assistance, and 1,623,887 with Agricultural Livelihoods Support. The Humanitarian Situation Monitoring (HSM) in Inaccessible areas -December 2021 is led by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and supported by partners. Findings showed concerning food consumption deficits and limited diversity of diets in the areas inaccessible to non-government partners. More than one in every two households (62.9 percent) struggled to have sufficient food intake and nearly 80 percent experienced a crisis or higher levels (CH Phase 3 and above) of food deprivation and hunger, further evidenced in the pervasive use of food-based coping strategies.  The cost of 70 percent Survival Minimum Expenditure Basket (SMEB) for a family of five in Maiduguri and Jere in Borno State, increased by 14 percent from 24,154 Naira (December 2021) to 27,620 Naira (January 2022). Similarly, in Damaturu, the SMEB marginally increased by one percent from 19,459 Naira (December) to 19,584 Naira (January)

In the inaccessible areas, there is an influx of new arrivals in Bama and Gwoza (IOM - DTM Nov 2021 – January 2022 HSM data). Bama influx is attributed to poor living conditions (48%) and voluntary relocation (52%) from inaccessible and hard-to-reach wards within Bama LGA.
