The study provides a gendered context analysis of factors that hinder favourable market environments and constitute barriers to women’s empowerment in the Niger/Nigeria border. It was conducted between June and July 2017 and examined women’s participation and role in agricultural markets through case studies drawn from Kano and Katsina states in northern Nigeria and the neighbouring Maradi region of Niger (“K2M”).
