World Humanitarian Day (WHD) takes place every year on 19 August, to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, to say "Never again" "Humanitarians are not - cannot be - a target."
Today, we not only celebrate aid workers worldwide, we would like to remind the international community of the global crises, their magnitude, their severity.
We have reached the tragic edge, as the world witnesses:
- Record-high levels of humanitarian needs.
- Record-high levels of attacks on humanitarian workers, with 265 aid workers killed as of August 14.
- Record-low levels of resources.
Despite the appalling conditions in which they work in the hardest-to-reach areas of the world and the alarmingly worsening food insecurity conditions, food security cluster staff and partners work relentlessly - too often risking their own lives. We join the global call of the humanitarian community: Stand With Humanitarians, Support the lifeline they provide.
