Mozambique Humanitarian Response Plan

OVERVIEW

On 14 March 2019, Tropical Cyclone Idai made landfall near Beira City, bringing devastation and destruction in its path. Both ahead of and after its landfall, the weather system brought torrential rains, wind and flooding to multiple districts. Over the weekend of 16 to 17 March, entire villages were left underwater as the floodwaters rose, leaving people stranded on roofs and trees. Hundreds of thousands of acres of crops were damaged, exacerbating food insecurity across the central region of the country. Prior to Cyclone Idai, 850,000 people across Mozambique were already in need of humanitarian assistance, mainly due to poor rainfall and the fall army worm (FAW) invasion.
