Key Highlights

❖ Food Security Situation: According to the Cadre Harmonisé (CH), an estimated 5.8 million people in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe (BAY) states will experience food insecurity (CH Phase 3 and above) during the June – August 2026 lean season. The ongoing geopolitical tensions and maritime supply disruptions caused by the Middle East War is expected to worsen the food security situation in Nigeria. Fuel-induced inflation driven by significant increase in pump prices (by up to 50% in some areas) and cost of fertilizers will squeeze household budgets, diminish purchasing power and limit access to food as well as disrupt this year’s seasonal crop production.

❖ Emergency Food Assistance (EFA): The 2026 Nigeria Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) was marginally funded (5 percent) as of mid-April 2026. WFP distributed food assistance to 451,583 people during February 2026, predominantly through e-vouchers. This was augmented by other partners that reached approximately 56,300 individuals with food assistance, 92% of which through cash/voucher modality.

❖ Emergency Agricultural Input Support: remained an essential life-saving pillar in addition to enhancing household resilience alongside food assistance. In February 2026, a total of 106,554 people benefited from in-kind Emergency Agricultural Input Support. FAO reached 96,685 people in BAY States, enabling them to enhance their agricultural and livelihood activities. NGO partners on the other hand supported an additional 9,869 individuals in BAY States.
