Food Security Sector SO2 Gap Analysis – July 2022

In July 2022, the sector partners have assisted 744,543 people with agricultural livelihoods interventions in the BAY states out of the 3.5M targeted people. The largest gap identified remains in Adamawa State (83%), followed by Yobe State (78%), and Borno State (77%). The gap in agriculture livelihood support is about 2.8 million people. This implies there is a significant agricultural livelihoods gaps in BAY states.

The Food Security Sector continued to coordinate government and non-government partners under the respective leadership of the Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, to ensure harmonization, and avoid duplication while supporting households with crop inputs for the ongoing rain season.

Despite the relative increase in access to land for production in the upcoming season as reported by communities and food security actors (including in some garrison towns), the number of farmers/households being targeted for the ongoing rain season support is small, as compared to the previous years. This is largely due to resource constraints. The Sector continues to advocate for more investment in agricultural livelihoods activities for vulnerable households that have access to land and labor capacities to produce. This will significantly contribute to strengthening the resilience of vulnerable households.
