Floods response for Far North

From July to September 2024, heavy rains in the Far North regions of Cameroon caused widespread flooding, particularly in the Mayo-Danay and Logone & Chari departments. Approximately 1,364,500 hectares of land and 235,700 hectares of cropland were submerged, disrupting food supplies and threatening the local economy.

Over 459,000 people were affected, with 65,945 households impacted; more than 56,000 homes were destroyed, and 5,510 livestock were lost. Priority needs include food, shelter, water, and healthcare. Humanitarian aid is being deployed, although logistical challenges remain due to difficult access to affected areas. 

Humanitarian organizations, including WFP and FAO, the lead agencies of the Food Security Sector, are providing assistance primarily in cash. Continued rains and rising river levels pose a risk of worsening food insecurity and triggering health epidemics such as cholera.
