Country overview

In early 2025, Syria’s Food Security Sector is shifting from a three-hub structure to a unified coordination body in Damascus to improve coherence, reporting, and service delivery. With 14.5 million people in need and 5.4 million targeted in the 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan, Syria faces worsening food insecurity—ranked sixth globally in the Hunger Hotspot Outlook. Inflation, currency collapse, unaffordable food, and a failing agricultural sector are key drivers. In response, FSS partners are scaling up food aid to 2.9 million people and supporting bread production, irrigation, and agricultural inputs, while prioritizing protection, gender, and accountability.
