About 14 years of prolonged conflict have plunged the Northeast Nigerian states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe (BAY) into chronic food insecurity. As insecurity persists, the situation is further compounded by 30-year high inflation, significantly affecting food commodity prices. These states also face climate-related shocks such as floods and erratic rainfall, increasing community vulnerability.
The latest Cadre Harmonisé (March 2024) projects that 4.8 million people will face acute food insecurity during the peak of the 2024 lean season, with about half a million people in the Emergency phase (CH Phase 4). This analysis indicates a second consecutive year of increasing numbers of acutely food-insecure people in these three states since 2022.
Amidst the increased needs, food security partners face significant resource constraints in 2024. Partners require about 340 million USD to reach at
