FOOD SECURITY SECTOR TRAINING ON INTEGRATING PROTECTION, GENDER,GBV AND AAP IN FOOD SECURITY & LIVELIHOOD PROGRAMES

Background:

The ongoing humanitarian crises in the Northeastern part of the country has led to loss of lives, productive assets and displacement of millions of households. The need for mainstreaming protection and gender across program intervention has become very imperative as the conflict has largely been tagged a protection crisis due to the intricacies associated with it. Additionally, the technical know-how on how effectively protection and gender are mainstreamed in food security programming also came into question. Especially from a mitigation perspective of do no harm principle.

To this end, WFP & FAO protection focal points conducted an online survey assessment for the Borno food security sector partners on capacity building needs in Protection/Gender, GBV/PSEA/AAP in April 2018. The outcome of the assessment led to a one-day capacity building training for the food security sector partners on protection and gender mainstreaming in program interventions, accountability to the affected population and mitigation or protection against sexual exploitation and abuse as humanitarian aid responders.
