Myanmar Food Security Sector

On 21 November, 2014, the Humanitarian Country Team chaired by UNRC/HC approved the creation of a Food Security Sector co-led by FAO and WFP in Yangon, Myanmar.

Since August 2011, Food Security Sector (FSS) partners have been providing life-saving food assistance to IDPs in Government controlled areas of Kachin and northern Shan states through regular distribution of food baskets. FSS partners will continue to enhance coordination with other sectors/clusters operating in Kachin, northern Shan and Rakhine states and incorporate issues such as AAP, gender equality, protection, community participation and value for money, while providing food security assistance to its beneficiaries. The FSS and its partners will also address the linkages from relief to recovery and development, ensuring that early recovery will be mainstreamed with the support of the Early Recovery Network. In particular, the FSS will review its priorities in the area of preparedness, capacity building and increasing resilience of the affected communities.
